卑詩省房屋局及業主發展商Wall Financial Corporation想興建一座十二層高(120尺)的大廈在喜士定東街及歌雅街的交界。為了這計劃,他們已經驅走七個為低收入人士及華人服務的商業租客。
Evicting seven retail serving the low-income and Chinese community, BC Housing and landlord-developer Wall Financial Corporation want to build a 12-storey (120 ft) tower at the corner of Gore and E. Hastings St.

因為發展的壓力,唐人街和市中心東端快速地貴族化。我們正在失去為低收入人士及華人服務的商業;此外,我們看到昂貴商業及貴樓被興建,市場對象主要是更有錢的白人。低收入人士和華人居民及長者將來去哪裏購買他們的日常用品?如果唐人街這樣繼續改變,唐人街將來會變成怎樣呢?
As a result of development pressures, Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside is gentrifying rapidly. We are losing businesses that serve the low-income and Chinese community; furthermore we are seeing high-end retail moving in and luxury developments being built, catering towards wealthier, mainly White, people. Where will low-income and Chinese residents and seniors go to buy what their daily goods? What will become of Chinatown if this continues?

政府必需要解決為低收入人士和華人服務的商業被逼遷的問題!

該項目計劃興建總共172個單位:68個是市價出租單位,104個是『社會房屋』。但只有34個先是真正可負擔單位(單人月租約$375)。按照市府的『社會房屋』定義,餘下的70個『社會房屋』單位的租金可達到月租$912(單人)。此外,更多市場房屋將導致附近的可負擔房屋單位的租金上漲。
The application is for a total of 172 units: 68 units of market rental and 104 units of “social housing.” However, only 34 of these “social housing” units are truly affordable to low-income people ($375/month for singles). Due to the City’s definition of “social housing, the remaining 70 units can rent up to $912/month for singles. Furthermore, more market housing will also result in rising rents for currently affordable housing units in the area.

We need 100% social housing units that are truly affordable to low-income people, not discriminating against them because they are “too poor.”

1) 星期一,1月25號,下午1:00,與我們聚集於華埠廣場 (奇化街180號)。然後我們會乘搭公共交通前往市政廳 (西12街453號)而下午2:30舉行集會。
1) Gather with us at Chinatown Plaza’s food court (180 Keefer St.) at 1pm on Monday, January 25, 2016.We will transit to Vancouver City Hall (453 West 12th Avenue) for a rally at 2:30pm

2) 在市府的發展許可委員會公眾會議發言,叫委員會去拒絕發展商的申請!會議將在下午3:00開始,在市政廳一樓的社區會議室。你必須登記才能向委員會發言:打這電話給 604-873-7770 或發電郵去lidia.mcleod@vancouver.ca來登記。
2) Speak at the Development Permit Board meeting at 3pm at City Hall – Town Hall Meeting Room (1st Floor), and tell them to reject the developer’s application! Sign-up to speak by calling 604-873-7770 or emailing lidia.mcleod@vancouver.ca
