Chinatown & DTES residents Fight the Heights with Music

The next event in the community-led campaign against the gentrification of Chinatown:

Tuesday April 5th
Public Hearing at City Council

– Meet 5pm at Carnegie Centre for dinner
– Leaving Carnegie 5:45pm together for city hall
– Rally and concert 6:30pm on the north side of city hall
– Public hearing starts 7:30pm in council chambers

Join CCAP at city council chambers to support the brave voices of our community.

We will start off the public hearing with a concert so we can show our community has music as well as words. Chinatown is a rich community with a precious cultural heritage that includes being low-income and includes the Downtown Eastside.

Many of the speakers who are signed up to speak at the public hearing are from our community — after the concert we will stand behind our community representatives to be sure that city council can hear us: We need social housing for Chinatown residents, not condo towers for the rich! We need affordable healthy food shops and clothing stores, not fancy boutiques… We want city council to vote against the Historic Area Heights Review.

For more information on the heights review and condos in Chinatown see the Fight the Heights website.
